Cerro Pedernal, or just "Pedernal", is situated on the north flank of the Jemez Mountains, just south of Abiquiu Lake.  Its highest point is 9,862 feet.

Its cliffs are popular with rock climbers, and it was a beloved feature often painted by renowned artist,  Georgia O'Keeffe.  Her  ashes were scattered on its top.
