Ocate (Nahuatl word meaning "pine") Peak is a volcano in northeastern New Mexico. During especially harsh winter conditions, howling winds whip the snow off the pines in Ocate Pass, lifting it upward to hundreds of feet above the treetops. This was a particularly dark and wintry day, with winds ripping through the pass at over 60 miles per hour…creating an extremely bleak, terrifying, and humbling environment. Although this print appears to be black and white, it truly isn't. If you peer closely at the trees in the foreground, you will detect a hint of green.
